805 Youth Lacrosse Association’s boys high school lacrosse club opened its inaugural season, on Saturday, March 3rd, sweeping both teams from Bakersfield. Playing in their first two games this season in the Pacific Lacrosse League (PLL) the 805 Sharks were victorious and have a 2 – 0 record in league play.
In the opening game, the Sharks hosted the Bakersfield Rams and tallied their first goal of the season when senior Nick Hughes dodged his defender and fired a shot into the back of the net. In a very competitive game, the Rams came back and tied the game in the 2nd quarter and the teams headed in to the half-time break knotted at one. The Sharks controlled the second half - tallying 3 unanswered goals and holding the Rams scoreless - for the first win of their season in their first game in program history (Schoenthal 2 goals; Hughes 1 goal/1 assist, and McMaster 1 goal). Jackson Hays had 5 saves in the first half and blanked the Rams in the second half, recording a total of 10 saves for the day and earning the player of the game honors.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Sharks hosted the Bakersfield Mustangs, and dominated the game from start to finish. Leading 12 – 0 starting the 3rd period, the Sharks continued to display their offensive prowess scoring 4 more goals and only allowing the Mustangs to score their first goal of the game in the 3rd period. The 805 Sharks won their second game of the PLL season by a final score of 16 - 1 (McMaster 3 goals, 1 assist; Hughes 2 goals, 2 assists; Schoenthal 2 goals, 2 assists; Johnson 1 goal, 2 assists ; Sosa 3 goals; Brownell 3 goals, 1 assist; Dostal 1 goal; and Acosta 1 goal; Hays 1 save, 1 goal allowed).
